The Nature of Jokes

George Carlin, comedian
There's something interesting I've noticed. Jokes, even the small ones, don't disappear after we said them. Let's remember those people who joked around about family, political and religious authorities. Jokes turn into sarcasm, sarcasm turns into negative perception and anger. I recently began to see the power of jokes in my life.

There's a big show broadcasts in Russia for decades and abbreviated as "KVN" (Club of Cheerful and Smart). During the show students from universities all of over the country compete against each other to find out who's the most hilarious. As a result, the young people make fun of almost everything around, even the most sacred such as the institute of marriage.

I've read about George Carlin, sometimes referred as the funniest English speaking comedian. He ridiculed the church and God. He said the following words:
"I have absolutely no sympathy for human beings whatsoever. None. And no matter what kind of problem humans are facing, whether it's natural or man-made, I always hope it gets worse."
Another famous comedian Bill Cosby, was sued on several occasions for sexual assault and using prostitutes repeatedly. Now, does it prove that making jokes somehow turn the joker into the immoral being? No. But it seems to me that the words the person speaks even in order to entertain people have power in his life. I've found that when I joke that I'm the most cool, sexy, and smart (that's funny because it's obvious that I'm not), it somehow degrades me. Conversely, when I admit that I'm not good at all, people start to respect me. A strange tendency, isn't it? When I make fun of people of power, I begin to disregard them. And when I joke about my parents, I argue with them more often.
I know people who are constantly being sarcastic about those who try to aspire to new heights. And when those highlanders fall, not reaching their purpose, the mockers are awaiting them. Highlanders will eventually reach their heights because they belong there, but the mockers will surely be humiliated someday.

So, I see that the jokes play a role in the formation of our worldview. It doesn't mean that we have to condemn them, but that we should be careful in choosing our words.

Why homosexuality is abominable?

Yesterday night I was struck by the thought about homosexuality. Is it bad? Why can't we let two people who sincerely love each other live together in marriage? After all it's their right! Here're my thoughts on this topic.

Leo Da Vinci's view of a perfect man
I believe in Jesus as my Lord who condemns homosexuality and if you don't believe in Christ, you are going to hell. But you don't care, right? And it's not the point of this discussion. I don't want to pick Bible and say homosexuality is abominable, I want to show how I deduced it using logic.
Imagine a drug addict. Most people would say any addiction is a problem i.e. a bad thing to do. Drug addiction is bad for (1) the addict himself and (2) others because he sets an example for them. Many drug addicts start to sell drugs in order to earn some money, so they encourage others to become like them. Homosexuality is somewhat close to this picture, but many times worse.
Homosexuality destroys the human identity. A boy who is taught about the possibility that he might sexually desire another boy must be really confused. I mean, we all are trying to understand who we are in terms of what we like and what we can't stand. Each one of us has different preferences and tastes. But, this constant struggle in researching of ourselves is in no comparison to the person who doesn't know what his sexuality is. His very identity is under question.
We know that the family is the foundation of any society. Happy family = happy society. A normal family has a mother and a father who participate in their child's life differently. A mother with her feminine touch and motherly wisdom plays the major role in the development of her offspring. We all know the natural intuition mothers have about what's going on in her child's mind. She deeply cares about her child's well being more than anyone else in the world. A father plays an important role as well, but he usually becomes more involved in his child's life later. For a girl, the father shows his manly attention, and for a boy, he is a supreme example. This idea of a family is the most important factor in building of a truly prosperous society.
Homosexual marriages will by themselves destroy the family and, hence, they are the precursor of society's downfall. By adopting children, homosexual couples nurture them in a way to either become homosexual or accept it as normal. These children will become adults and they will live their lives according to how they were brought up. Also, homosexual marriages will give a precedence for polygamy. Why a polygamist doesn't have a right to create a family with his wives? And what about that dude who sleeps with his dog and wants to marry that bitch? Doesn't he have a right to be happy as well? So, as you can clearly see, homosexual lifestyle is a Pandora's box. And that's because we redefined marriage and, thus, lost the idea of who we are.
Therefore, there're 3 points: (1) homosexuality destroys human identity, (2) homosexuality destroys society, and (3) homosexuality opens doors to the infinite number of other perversions.
